It's All Downhill From Here..Baby!

We've fully enjoyed our long weekend.
No routine.
Fun times all around.

On Saturday we had a lazy day.
Hangin' out with each other.
Cleaning up "Dixie's puppy piddles".
You know, just enjoying being a family.

In the late afternoon we decided to venture out into the world and run some much needed errands.
We pulled into the Costco parking lot.
C-boy jumped out of the car first. I took issue with his un-shapely hat but decided to just let go.
S-girl emerged next. I hadn't really thought much about her wearing my childhood dress around the house during the day, and yet somehow I missed the fact that she had entered the vehicle still adorned in this lovely attire.
Then came J-boy.
Sweat pants, snow boots, bed head...all kinds of fashion emergencies.
Finally, L-boy sealed the deal in his red pajama shirt.
I'm not really sure what happened.
Really...I have never been super concerned about what my kids are wearing as long as they look clean and neat.

I dropped the ball.
There was nothing "Clean and Neat" about these four children scurrying around me.
As I took in the scene I had to snap a photo on my phone.
I enjoy entertaining my sister with picture texts.

I spent the rest of the evening keeping a distance of at least 8 feet from my small "swarm" of a family.
I knew people would be more forgiving a Daddy out with his four little "messes".
"What a good Daddy", they would think to themselves, "he probably gave his wife the day off!  How sweet of him!"
So yes, I kept my distance.
For the sake of the children.

Just take a moment.
I think S-girl takes the cake on this one.
Nothing screams "What NOT to wear" like a 30 year old dress adorned with apples, black stretch pants, and light purple Crocs!

Because I want this to be the last picture in your mind as you leave the Peanut Gallery.

Hey, S-Girl looks comfortable, and that's all that counts! ;)

Oh that is so funny!

I tell ya, I cringe on the days that I know my husband will be dressing Itty Bit... and on those days, I can't even tell the difference between what he picked, or what the 4-year old picked :)

They are lovely - absolutely lovely... and I only like that last picture best because they are so affectionate with eachother :)

You are the best! The absolute best! They are cute as buttons, crazy get-ups and all! I can't tell you how many times we do this kind of thing. I look around and wonder how I'd missed it. Heck, we went out to dinner once and forgot Sam's pants!
I just love you! Thanks for sharing! And that last picture is precious!

These are great! Its good to know your kiddos arent always picture perfect! I also love the new addition :) sooo sweeet, she is beautiful. I hope this perks up Old Jake too. Julie~I think I love you a little more! I have SO been that mom on occasion. After a certain point in the day I just assume they are all dressed and I forget to check them! One time, I was at a play place and ran into a friend from high school who had her immaculately dressed children with her. I wasn't much better that day. Holey jeans, pony tail hair. It was awesome. Or something. LOL Your kids are adorable!

OH I love this! They are adorable all messy and all cleaned up. Julie, this so perfectly describes a moment I think every mother has lived. It is one of those things that makes kids that much more wonderful. They are quirky, silly, and too young to care what other people think. It is refreshing. I had to laugh so hard at the part about you keeping your distance. Dad's sure have it easy because you are right, people probably did think that. But I am betting there are a few moms that giggled because they have been there too.

Maya would ADORE that dress! And she'd accessorize just as S-Girl did....although frankly it would probably be weirder. She has way too many clothing choices. With two older sisters, she's constantly raiding their drawers and swooping downstairs in dresses that she has to hold up to walk (who doesn't love that?) over which she'll throw a ripped tutu and some gaudy costume jewelry and she's set to go.

Oh, and she can handle putting rubber bands in her hair like it's nobody's business. I am talking some seriously funky hairstyles!

So, I think your kids look GREAT at Costco! Too bad we don't live closer and we could meet on sample day and pretend all those kids belong to somebody else.

That is hilarious. I have done the same thing...hide so they think it's a poor daddy who is in over his head out with kids (my husband is not in over his head with the kids, but they don't know that.) Although I did hear him trying to help Sophia get ready for church...I don't know what he picked out but I heard her say "Daddy you don't know how to dress girls!" :)

HAHAHA...too funny! They would fit right in at Costco. Seriously, don't you notice that EVERYONE who works there dresses kinda...strange?!

ha ha ha.... snicker snicker!!
I am often caught out in public with my little girl with her high water yoga pants that are tucked in at the waist b/c she is so skinny... and her old shirt with sleeves bordering 3/4 b/c she can't part with old clothes... and snow boots... (SHE's 10!!) she has got to care more than that by now?!! I can not convince her to care... I even try peer pressure sometimes... b/c surely she has to notice that her friends don't dress like that??! OH my! and I don't even want to talk about Sammy's clothing!! lol!! You are not alone! my kids would be in good company with yours!! ;)

Signed: the mother who tries to catch the ball before it drops!

hey... I need a puppy pic... or a story... NEED! really!

Ooooh Lordy, Julie! I guess it's great that you have a sense of humor about it???

I love you too much to tease. :)

LOL! I love it! I so wish you'd link this up on my blog this weekend. Too entertaining not to share. I do believe the dress takes the cake. But that last photo is gorgeous! You do have a beautiful family, Julie!

While the outfits leave something to be desired (although I'm sure not as bad as some of our getups), they in no way detract from the wholly cow cuteness of your kiddos!!!

Aww...they look adorable!

I gave up on caring what my boys wear a long time ago. OK, I'm lying. I do still cringe. I just don't have the energy to argue with them about it.

This is perfect! I love it, and it is so nice to see that after all I am not alone in letting my children get by with less than perfect attire every now and then!

Beautiful family!! Good to know that I'm not the only momma who leaves the house letting my kids ROCK what they wear! ;)

Love your families story as well...being an adoptive momma of two beautiful girls it brought me to tears! God is the author of so many amazing stories!
