Ah, it feels so good.
I have mentioned before that L-boy is a difficult one to capture these days.
Well, he's taking it one step further now.
Not only does he look away when he sees my camera...he RUNS.
This makes for some lovely "action" shots.
Unfortunately that usually was not my intention and thus they are blurry.
Maybe I should just keep my camera shutter speed high when it comes to capturing the "running man".
On our recent vacation L-boy helped himself to this cute little daisy.
Of course, his cute little "daisy sniffs" prompted me to grab my camera.
L-boy was completely unaware of my sneaky little plan.
So when I slyly called his sweet little name...
HE LOOKED!!
Of course, he was in motion so the shot wasn't as clear as I would have hoped...that and I was walking backwards.
Or something like that.
I present to you the after effects of a little romp in Photoshop and Lightroom.
Take my hand and form a chain,
Down a magic Daisy lane.
Smile a friendly smile and say,
May I help someone today?
Ah...those were the days.
Any former Daisy scouts out there?
I never got to be a Daisy Scout.
I started in second grade and thus Brownie was my title.
Not nearly as cute if you ask me.
But I do love me some fudgy brownies fresh out of the oven with vanilla ice cream.
Now, take my hand and form a chain..
down a magic daisy lane...skip on over to Pixel Perfect blog for more fun and games.

The recipe.
I actually edited this in photoshop elements first.
I initially used Coffeeshop Baby Powder Room action where I lightened the lil' pumpkins face, eyes, and did some smoothing of his rashy little cheeks.
Then I flattened and made a duplicate copy and set the blending mode to Soft Light and decreased the opacity to taste. That gave the picture more depth.
I made another duplicate copy and set it to screen and adjusted the opacity. The screen blending mode serves to lighten the picture.
Then I transferred the picture over to Lightroom and used the SarahJi preset called Gingko. (p.s. it was free from preset heaven) I then added a vignette.
That my friends, is that!

Woooweee! Great edit! Great Subject! Great tutorial on what you did!
I love the SOOC shot, and the editing is just perfect! Such a dreamy capture!
And you did NOT just talk about my favorite dessert of all time. You just shot my diet right to the fail zone with that one sentence, hee hee :) I looovve me some warm brownies with vanilla ice cream. Like "every day I was pregnant" kind of love. I'm still walking it off... 4 years later.... Eeek!
Love it! Very nice editing. I don't get the opportunity to spend too much time playing around with post processing these days. I might just give this blog hop a try at some point. Looks like fun!
My daughter tried Daisies for one year. That was all it took... wasn't too pleased with the leader. We never went back to try again. :-(
Rachel - lmao :o)
Those are beautiful shots - and I LOVE that you call your post-production work a "recipe" - too cute!
wow! you did a great job! I love this one!(plus the subject is adorable!)
Yes, you make it seem so easy with your "that's it my friends!" ... how come when I try it, my photo ends up looking like I took it in middle of a black hole? ;)
Love this photo of L-boy...holy cow, those eyes of his would just melt my heart every single day! So beautiful!!!
p.s. I do think Pixel perfect is amazing and have spent quite some time over there at your encouragement ... I think I just need to focus a little more when trying this photoshop stuff. One of these days I'll get it!
Have a great week, my friend!!
Very nice before and after. So sweet! I love it!
Great pic! I love how the edit brightens up his eyes and I love the warmth.
What a cutie-pie!!!!
I'm taking notes, Julie!!! Thanks for sharing your tips!! You're great like that!! ;)
Oh my, that is beautiful... I'd love to do more photography. Trouble is I don't have much more time to spare. Ahhh.... the story of every Mom.
Ha, gotcha! This is a great photo and I appreciate you adding the editing process. I would really love to start editing my photos and hanging them up (as opposed to leaving them on my computer). I was also a Brownie and I'm getting ready to sign my Jamison up very soon.
Super pic.
Daisy scout? Ohhh, I dreamed of it. Weren't they called blue birds? I might be crazy.
Always fun peeking at your work!
Isn't it funny how a shot can go from "pretty good" to great like that. I LOVE your final result. Beautiful. I always forget to do that second step you mentioned. I only seem to remember when someone tells me to do it. Thanks for the kick.
:)
What an adorable shot! He is too cute and the edit is amazing!!
Super Cute! I love the Coffeeshop actions! His eyes really pop in the edited shot =)
His eyes were the very first thing I noticed and I believe the word "wow" went through my head. :) Striking!
And now I'm going to go make some brownies.
his little face just lights up in the edited one!
This is such a pretty photo of him! It's okay to say he's "pretty," right?
I have one that's not a fan of the camera. Surprise and a zoom lens seem to be the only way! And you're right, shutter speed!
I love your after. Thanks for writing your steps. I always forget.
thanks for commenting. the edit is great. I love his eyes in it!
I can totally relate with you on trying to get a half decent shot of you little guy...getting my 2 year old to sit still for a picture is a challenge so I have to use the sneak approach on him and it works most of the time. :)
What a lovely shot. Love the edit! I will have to download that preset from PH. I don't think I have it yet. I still need to figure out how to use PSE actions.
Beautiful photo!
My hubby keeps asking me, "so, have you used your Photoshop that you bought way back when....?" Ummmm, not yet, I'm still to scared!
You make it sound so easy. Maybe one weekend I'll buckle down and try some stuff!
Oh...I was a Brownie too! And...I love to eat brownies too! YUM.
Wow, love it! Those eyes....killer.
Great edit! And thank you for sharing the how to! It is very helpful for those of us who just play with the buttons til we happen to stumble upon a look we like. lol. A daisy scout? Nope. Back when I started, sometime around 81 or 82 I believe, they didn't have Daisies. Brownies were where you started. I did go on to be a Junior and later a Senior as well. And when my daughter was younger, I became her GS Troop Leader. :) Oh the memories...
Oh Julie, this is precious! He might be tough to capture but when you capture him it's so good! LOVE IT!
What a gorgeous job! Amazing~!
Beautiful edit!! My 22 month old turns and runs now when she sees my camera too :o( Oh well....
Amazing!! dang I need Photoshop!! well... now I need a new camera AND photoshop! *sigh* it is SO depressing trying to take photos with a camera that you can not actually SEE what you are taking a photo of!! oh... anyway... Such a Sweet photo of your little man! I love that he runs!
oh and my little girl was a daisy... 5 years ago... sniff!!
Ha! You TRICKED him! And it turned out sooooo adorable! I love the after!
Oh my gosh, he is adorable! I love those eyes and with the daisy it's perfect:) Great edits, thanks for sharing your tips :)

I love your blog and all of your photos. Please take a look over at my blog as you have an award waiting there for you!
I don't really even see the blur you are talking about. So what's up with that?
I think the picture is fabuloso! Also, can you tell me how to use the baby powder action? I have it, but I don't know how to use that one.
How are you??? Where are you???
BEautiful & you are doing great in the editing department. I was like you did what and dropped the what and changed the opacity to wha? Give me actions or give me death.
LOL
Great job!
Don't they know that we are just trying to capture these moments and some day they will want to see them? If only they would hold still!!! The after photo actually made me say Ohhhh out loud. He is so ridiculously cute. The edit just makes it magical.
LOVE it! Great edit! SOOOOO glad to see you back in the game. :)
Julie,
Hope you don't mind that I linked back to you on my post today about Radical! Hope all is well.
